Dr Coe resolved to use her clinical psychology skills combined with applied neurosciences training to optimize her recovery. The outcome of her journey was a heightened sensitivity to the impact of a major injury in all areas of a person’s life and the multiple adjustments required to optimize functioning and manage chronic pain. She rekindled a passion for clinical assessment and the importance of well-informed intervention strategies for a targeted plan to achieve mental health and lifestyle goals. Dr. Coe believes a comprehensive assessment provides insight and data to determine with a diagnosis (if appropriate) and/or evaluation of the client’s current functioning and what is required to address the gap from where they are currently to what is feasible and optimal. Assessment can be applied to mental health concerns, wellness, optimizing career success and major life transitions resulting in a blueprint to guide the client’s decision making including best use of their resources (i.e., physical, mental, cognitive capacity, social networks, and family support) for success. Simply put, assessment is essential to determining what is needed for Return-To-Work, to identify mental health disorders and to achieve exceptional career satisfaction.

Dr. Coe graduated with her Ph.D. with a specialization in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary and holds a master’s degree in psychology with a focus on Cognitive Psychology. Karen’s interest in cognitive strategies and stress management for optimal performance has been a foundation for her work in many areas. JC Dumont is a registered provisional psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)....He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. Over the course of his career, JC has conducted over 12,000 hours of clinical practice and worked with over 4,000 clients, including first responders and veterans, couples and families, as well as adolescence and adults. He has learned the key role of personal transformative experiences in understanding human nature. Just as he assists his clients on a path of self-discovery and development, he takes time to learn more about himself by participating in personal growth courses and engaging in philosophical studies.

His practice is guided by the principles of humanistic psychology, evolutionary psychology, and cognitive-behavioural therapy. Since working as a mental health therapist, JC has learned that while stories change, the lessons learned stay the same. Indeed, while our experiences are unique, the lessons we learn reflect both our unique individuality and shared humanity. Based on what he has learned from his own experiences and that of others’, JC is able to provide clients insights into the behavioural habits, emotional reactions, and patterns of thought that entrap them.

By making clear observations, providing timely insights, and attempting to heal old wounds, JC helps clients recognize the causes of the difficult situations they face. Our minds try to protect us from the harshness of reality by projecting an image of how we wish to be perceived, rather than who we truly are. As a result, we unmistakably miss our true essence! However, just as the brain must be grounded in reality to heal and function optimally, the mind requires silence to think clearly. Therefore, a common goal in session is to distinguish fact from fiction, and illusion from reality. In short, JC assists his clients in recognizing their human potential and points them toward the tools they need to embody what they can be.
